Rum for Breakfast...

Rum for Breakfast is the addictive blend of friendship, adventure and a peculiar surf ritual from Panama. A project in which the Dutch musician Machiel Scholten shows all the different sides of his colorful character. While his songs touch upon different styles, all of his songs have the same vibe as the songwriter himself: relaxed, spontaneous and intimate. 

Together with his musical companions, Machiel has released his debut album, called ‘Balance’.
The title resembles the two sides of Rum for Breakfast and the transition it is undergoing: from a solo ‘collab’ project to a a fixed group of musical friends to accompany Machiel on his Rum for Breakfast journey.
It’s about the balance between these two sides of the Rum for Breakfast project.
Hence, the album also has two sides: the A (Band) - side and the B (Solo) -side.

The songs reflect the journey of Rum for Breakfast over the passed 5 years, with different musicians who traveled along with Machiel on his musical adventures. Some are still in the driver’s seat, while others have taken place in the back of the car, still being part of the Rum for Breakfast family, but in a a different role.

Now, Rum for Breakfast consists of a solid 4 piece band with musical friends who already know each other for many years.
For 2025, the band is working on their native Dutch debut, with the first single to be released end of January 2025.

Live is when the band really comes to full circle. Enjoying musical adventures, with his  live band; experiencing the moment as a band and as a crowd united.
